EV charging with evcc in Frankfurt

Your electric car charges with power from your own solar panels instead of selling it cheaply to the grid. I set up evcc: free software that connects wallbox, inverter and car and runs locally at your home.

Typical situations

  • You have solar panels, but the car charges from the grid.
  • With a dynamic electricity tariff, charging should happen in cheap hours.
  • The wallbox app cannot do this, or only via the manufacturer’s cloud.
  • Several cars or charging points should share the power sensibly.

How I work

  1. Check what fits together

I check whether wallbox, inverter, meter and car can talk to each other, usually over Modbus or the manufacturer’s interface on the local network.

  2. Use the surplus

evcc runs on a small computer at your home and charges with your system’s surplus. When the sun is not enough, it keeps charging on one phase instead of stopping, provided your wallbox supports switching.

  3. Add tariffs

With a dynamic tariff, the price curve comes in. The car then prefers to charge in cheap hours.

  4. Hand over

You control everything from a web interface in the browser or on your phone, without an account with any provider.

Frequently asked questions

Which wallboxes work with evcc?

Many common models. I check which ones exactly before the appointment, based on your devices, so you do not pay for a setup that then does not work.

Do I need a cloud for this?

The control runs locally on your network. Only a few values come from the internet, such as the charge level of some cars or the prices of a dynamic tariff.
